Matt Fortunato has been building faux stone artisans since he was a kid.
In 2010, the 30-year-old architect from New York City took up the craft, and it took him nearly six years to craft the most basic faux stone.
Fortunatello’s work can be found on the walls of his New York office and on the back of his art.
“I’m obsessed with creating a beautiful, natural stone, because I’ve always been fascinated by the natural beauty of the earth and its connection to the natural world,” he told us.
“So I always wanted to create something that was really natural, but also, I always tried to keep it in nature.”
Fortunatos is currently working on a series of pieces for a museum and gallery in Atlanta called The New Modern Art.
“It’s about using a lot of reclaimed materials, using the most natural materials, and then using the highest quality natural materials,” he said.
The artist’s collection spans many different mediums, from wood to stone, to glass to metal.
The pieces include a glass door, an ornate fireplace, and a glass and steel statue that can be seen in New York.
In addition to his work on stone, Fortunetos has built a replica of a mannequin with the face of a human.
In the past, Fonas worked with a small group of local artists to create a set of sculptures for a local church.
“My work is kind of about creating a community in my life,” he explained.
“And I think I’m just a natural, beautiful, human, I guess, person.
That’s what I wanted to be, so I just wanted to live my life with a natural balance of beauty.”
Fonato’s work is available to view at his studio in New Jersey, and he also has a gallery of his works in Atlanta.
His latest project is a new sculpture called the “Faux Stone” that is modeled after a real stone.
The sculpture, which will be displayed at the Modern Art Museum in New Orleans this fall, is based on an old stone that is used in New England for a stone garden.
Fonatos and his team have designed a new design for the sculpture that is meant to reflect the natural elements of the landscape, and is intended to be a temporary installation.
“There’s a lot more to a stone than just the stone itself, because the stone is very important to the world, to the environment, and to the people who are living in it,” he explains.
“When you walk through the woods, you see the stone that’s in the ground, the stone in the water.
You see the natural grasses that are planted and the stone you’re walking on.
So it’s important to take a look at those things and think about them and think, ‘What’s the stone’s connection to all of that?’
And that’s why we wanted to do something that’s really natural.”
